Below are a set of questions that refer to materials covered in the course up to September 29th. It does not include any Python coding. There is a mixture of tasks and questions, and you will also need to use osmotar for part of the assignment.

The assignment is due on October 14th. Please answer the questions in a format that can be emailed to Scott and Matt for grading (i.e. word format). The code you use can be pasted into word.

If you have questions we can go through them in Tutorial, Lectures and Labs next week. Also, feel free to post questions in Teams for Matt, Scott and your fellow students to help.

1.) FME and data strucutres (2 M\arks)
Using an editor on osmotar, edit the appropriate file in the compressed saf file (you may recall you need to unzip the .saf file to access the set of files stored within the saf file format) to remove some of the unnecessary input layers for the saf2spatialite conversion in FME workbench. Rezip the files, but keep the .saf extension and test your result in FMW workbench.

Describe what you have done (screenshots or examples from the appropriate file would be helpful) in your word file.

2.) BASH script for re-projecting raster data (4 Marks)

Using the data Matt has placed on file share (that you downloaded to your /username/data/assignment1), create a BASH script for translating a group of raster data to a Web Mercator projection as a GeoTIFF. This will effectively copy the files from your original folder, to an new output folder in the new projection. There is a bonus mark for writing the script to just copy the input raster file that is already in Web Mercator.

HINT: Use the following AWK code for regular expression recognition of projection information.

3.) Managing your QGIS instance (1 Mark)

What is the default export vector and raster formats for QGIS? If I asked you to change the output vector format to Spatialite, how would you go about doing so? Describe your steps (use screenshots if you think it would help) .

4.) Installing software on your VM (1 Mark)

Install the database browser for SQLite (not the Spatialite GUI app you have already installed). Write out the steps (commands) you used to install the software.

HINT: The name of the software has both browser and sqlite in its name.

5.) Database structure of Spatialite (2 Marks)

After you have the software from question 4 installed, use it to see what spatial layers are present in one of your spatialite files. Write out how you investigated/navigated the database to determine what the name of the layers are present in the database.
